Sorrow by the National

So I lied. But hopefully the month of April will be better. Here's my song for today.

Reunion and Finale by Randy Edelman

So I got a bit off in my song posting for the month of February but I'm gonna stay on top of things for March. Today I'm posting a song from the Gettysburg soundtrack. I think the music, as well as the movie, are fantastic. This is one of those movies and soundtracks I grew up with though, so that may be part of the reason I love them so much.

Rogue Machine by The Daylights

I don't know if anyone actually views this portion of my blog, but if they do, they may have noticed that I've been MIA the past few days. The reason being that I was in Utah visiting family and friends. I did have my laptop with me, but I did not have my external hard drive with me, which is what stores all my music. That's right. I love music so much that I have TOO MUCH of it to be able to store it on my laptop's normally significantly sized hard drive. Therefore, I had to go without posting a song of the day for the time of my trip. But I'm back and for my first post back...well it's another Daylights song because as I've said, I love these guys!

The Battle by Harry Gregson-Williams

From The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe

I love pretty much all the music from this movie, and I wish Harry Gregson-Williams would have done the score for the newest Narnia movie. I liked the movie, but would have liked it even more if they'd used the same composer.

Mother Knows Best by Donna Murphy

One of my favorite animated films of the year was Tangled, along with Toy Story 3 and How to Train Your Dragon. This song, Mother Knows Best, is from Tangled and I love it.

From Yesterday by Vitamin String Quartet

I recently discovered this album by Vitamin String Quartet called Tribute to 30 Seconds to Mars. Some of the songs are just eh... but some are actually pretty good. I really like their version of From Yesterday. Not nearly as much as the original, obviously, but it's still pretty decent. The string stuff compared to the original stuff is obviously going to have a different feel to it though, so it's somewhat hard to compare them anyway, except for the fact that it's the same tune...

I Gotta Feeling by Black Eyed Peas

I'm not a big fan of Black Eyed Peas but I do love this song and I attribute that to the fact that I never listen to the radio, otherwise I'm sure I'd be sick of it by now.

Echelon by 30 Seconds to Mars

K, so the 30 Seconds to Mars concert is happening in exactly one week so for the next 7 days I'll be posting a different MARS song, in a way of counting down to the concert. If you hate 30 Seconds to Mars....**blasphemy** then don't check my Song of the Day for the next week cuz you'll be sorely disappointed in my song selection. It's been my experience that people generally love the band or hate them. There aren't many people in the middle so sorry if you belong in the latter category.

Heart of Courage and Fountain of Life by Two Steps From Hell

"Two Steps From Hell" is more of a company name, I suppose. It's a group of people who specialize in composing music for advertising, and more specifically theatrical trailers. I love the music that this particular group composes. It's not often that a person can be sitting in a movie theater watching never before seen trailers edited to movie score (vs. the pop songs they play on the radio) and be like "Hey! I love this song!" But I do! Here are a couple of my favorites from Two Steps From Hell.

Heart of Courage
Fountain of Life
I'm in the process of editing movies to both of these songs, though I have been for quite some time now, so who knows if they'll ever get finished. Guess what the vids are. They're about this boy who's name starts with Harry and ends in Potter. Yeah...I'm a nerd...

Favorites from Harry Potter by Various

So Megan, Nate and myself just went to the Harry Potter exhibit at the Pacific Science Center so I thought in honor of that event, I would post one of my favorite songs from each soundtrack for each of the movies. With some of the soundtracks it was really hard for me to choose, and with others it was pretty easy. Here are my faves.

Harry's Wondrous World by John Williams from The Sorcerer's Stone
(This is the music I associate with Harry Potter. It's what started it all.)

Fawkes the Phoenix by John Williams from The Chamber of Secrets

Buckbeak's Flight by John Williams from The Prisoner of Azkaban

Harry in Winter by Patrick Doyle from The Goblet of Fire

Dumbledore's Army by Nicholas Hooper from The Order of the Phoenix

Dumbledore's Farewell by Nicholas Hooper from The Half-Blood Prince
(Cuz it's so pretty in such a sad way)

Obliviate by Alexandre Desplat from The Deathly Hallows
(This is equally as sad)
