If I had to choose one thing that means more than anything to me, besides family, friends, and the gospel of course, it would be music. It's like that age old question, if you could have one thing on a desert island, what would it be? My answer? My ipod. Music has the ability to elicit so many emotions. If I'm having a bad day and feel like wallowing in self-pity, I can turn on my "Sad Day" playlist. Or if I feel like cheering myself up (which is generally what I prefer) then I turn on my "Driving" playlist, which holds those upbeat songs you listen to while driving in the sun with the top down, if I had a convertible that is. Music can either contribute to an emotion you're already feeling, or completely turn it around. Generally it just makes me happy, whether it's me playing air drums or air guitar to a rock song, or dancing my awkward dance moves to a pop song, or singing at the top of my lungs, music holds a mystical power over me.
This is where I'll share some of my favorite songs. From the popular to the unknown. From movie scores to movie soundtracks. From pop to rock to folk to classic rock-one of my favorites will be posted here every day.
Cuz It's Not Just About the Music...But the People Who Play It
I love music. So how do I choose my favorite artists. It's simple. Good music and personality. The music is what originally catches my interest but like I've said, I love music, and a LOT of it catches my interest. But if music influences me chemically, which sounds weird, but some of it does, than I know I've got something good on my hands. Then I look into the band itself, and if I like the people who play the music than we have a winner. Of course there are a lot of amazing musicians out there, comprised of amazing people, so when it comes down to it, it's just personal preference...obviously :)
The Boys of 30 Seconds to Mars
I love their music. It's complex, interesting and they offer uplifting messages about following your dreams, and not focusing on mistakes you've made in the past, but learning from them and then starting over. It's these factors plus the band members personalities that make them number one in my book. Meet the brothers who started the band:
The Boys of Safetysuit
I love Safetysuits music. It's fun and uplifting and it's just plain good. I don't know what it is about it but I can listen to it all the time. A lot of hardcore music fans would probably say that musically, they're similar to a lot of other bands out there. Which may be true, but they're definitely talented and there's something about their music that grabs me and won't let go. Plus, they're one of the best bands I've ever heard live. Meaning that they sang on key and while at the same time maintaining an energetic performance, which is hard to do. But what is it that ranks them at number 2? Their personalities. They are totally normal, down-to-earth guys, and they're really nice. And I can say that for a fact because I met them, so it's not a "they SEEM really nice" but they ARE really nice, and gracious toward their fans. Meet the boys of safetysuit:
